The Blue Heron Reserve mitigation site is located in Sandusky County, Ohio, within the boundaries of the metropolitan park of the same name. The mitigation wetland will be approximately 54 acres, containing emergent herbaceous/wet meadow (23 acres), wet meadow (12 acres), scrub-shrub (11 acres) and forested (8 acres) habitats. Restored wetlands at this site will be designed around existing natural features, including a spring-fed wetland and a fen. Sandusky County Park District will integrate the wetlands into Blue Heron Reserve, using the restored wetlands for environmental education, and continuing its attempts to expand the unique fen area. All restored wetlands will be category 2 and 3 wetlands, managed and maintained as wetlands in perpetuity.
